The TaxDoctor Checklist: Dutch Income Tax Return

To file your income tax return quickly, we need the following documents from the relevant tax year.


1. Personal Situation (Immigration, Partners, and Children)


  • Immigration and emigration: Did you move to or from the Netherlands during the tax year? Please provide the exact date that you registered or deregistered with the Dutch municipality.

  • Tax Partner: Did your personal circumstances change last year? For example, did you marry, begin living together, sign a cohabitation agreement, or become separated/divorced? If so, please provide the exact date. If you have a new tax partner, please include their full name, birth date, and BSN (Citizen Service Number).

  • Children: Do you have any children at home, including newborns? If I do not have their information yet, please provide their initials, date of birth, and BSN (Citizen Service Number).


2. Income and Housing (Box 1)


  • Annual Income Statements (Jaaropgaven): From all of your employers, benefit agencies, and pension funds.

  • 30% ruling: Do you benefit from the 30% ruling? If so, please upload a copy of the official grant letter (beschikking), unless I already have one on file.

  • Disability Insurance (AOV): An overview of the AOV premiums paid this year.

  • Foreign Working Days: Have you worked abroad? Please give an overview of these days.

  • Homeowner: The annual mortgage statement (showing paid interest and remaining debt), as well as the municipality's official property value statement (WOZ-beschikking)


Have you moved? Please also include the notary settlement statement and invoices for any advisory fees.


3. Business (Box 2)


  • Substantial Interest (BV): Do you own 5% or more of a Dutch BV or foreign entity? Please upload information about any dividend distributions or share sales.


4. Assets & Wealth (Box 3)


  • Bank & Investments: The annual statements (showing the balance on January 1st AND December 31st) for all your personal checking, savings, investment accounts, and crypto wallets.

  • Real Estate (Domestic & Foreign): Do you own a second home or other real estate? Please provide

    • Address and the purchase or WOZ value,

    • For foreign real estate, please provide the market value.

    • Also, include the exact amount of the mortgage/debt tied to this specific property.

    • Do you rent it out? Please provide the total rent received or bank statements showing the rental income.

  • Trusts (APV): Are you a settlor or beneficiary of a trust? If so, please provide a copy of the trust deed.

  • Debts: Annual statements for private loans and student loans (DUO), showing the balance on January 1st and December 31st.


5. Deductions (Optional, but can save you money)


  • Did you incur significant expenses for annuity/pension contributions, registered charity donations (ANBI), or large unreimbursed medical expenses? Please upload the annual statements or proof of payment.


Have there been any significant financial or personal changes (e.g., divorce, inheritance, or new tax partner)? Please notify me via a short message.
